About the Table

Of all the pool tables sold in the U.S., approximately 98% are ordered for home use. Billiard games are played on a rectangular table, twice as long as it is wide. The most common home table size is 4 x 8 feet. However, 4 1/2 x 9 feet is used for commercial and professional purposes. The level table surface, called the bed, is most often made of slate and is covered with a finely woven fabric, usually green in color. There are six pockets on each pool table, and a player must break balls from the head spot at the head rail.
