The
Cue unscrews
into two pieces of equal length called the Shaft
and the Butt.
The shaft includes the Tip,
the Ferrule,
and a wooden section. The tip is usually made of cowhide
and pigskin. A cue tip could possibly pop off during play,
so regular maintenance is recommended. The main function
for the cue ferrule is to dampen the shock.
The
Butt includes the Joint,
the Wrap, and
the Bumper. The joint connects the shaft and butt. The
wrap makes your backhand grip more comfortable, less
likely to slip, and absorbs moisture. Rubber, nylon,
leather and even the skin of an elephant ear could be
the materials to make a cue wrap.
